SPIDER will provide rescue teams of major incidents with an integrated and intelligent communication and information system. Thereby allowing for an efficient emergency process management to all people involved. It is a so called Integrated Federation System for Crisis Management.

The main objective of the SPIDER project is to research and to specify a System of Systems which:

• Enables a transparent exchange of data between the partner-systems on basis of a XML-scheme based language called PRML (Protection and Rescue Markup Language).
• Ensures privacy-protection and data security.
• Explores and specifies the interfaces of the connection of the heterogeneous systems

Therefore, it is necessary to study today’s’ and future ICTs (Innovative Communication Technologies) which are the foundation the whole communication process.
